Privacy
This page explains what Viking Finds stores about you and why. The short version: we keep the minimum needed to run an account and a public forum, we do not sell anything, and you can ask for it all to be deleted.
What we collect
- Account: your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and avatar Google shares. Authentication is handled by Supabase.
- Contributions: sites you submit, photos you upload, and forum posts. These are public by design and shown with your display name.
- Technical: a session cookie so you stay signed in, and standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) kept briefly for security and debugging.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate (which pages are visited, roughly where visitors come from). It sets cookies and Google processes the data on our behalf; IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. We do not use it to identify you or to advertise.
- We also use North Sea Strategic’s first-party analytics (stats.northseastrategic.com) to measure page views and general usage — it is cookieless, stores no personal data, and does not track you across other sites.
- Personalisation: when you are signed in, we record which sites you view and save so we can suggest similar ones and show your recent activity. This is tied to your account only, is never shared or sold, and is removed when you delete your account.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no sale or sharing of your personal data.
- No precise location is collected from your device unless you press the locate button on the map, and then it is used only in your browser.
Photos and locations
Uploaded photos have their embedded location data (EXIF) removed on display. Do not upload images of people without their consent, and think before pinning a sensitive or unprotected site precisely.
Your rights
You can ask us to export or delete your account and contributions at any time by emailing crew@vikingfinds.com. Deleting an account removes your profile; contributions may be kept in anonymised form because other people have built on them.
Where data lives
Data is hosted by Supabase and Vercel in the United States. Map tiles are served by OpenFreeMap; loading them shares your IP address with that service like any web resource.
