Iceland was settled from Norway in the late ninth century, and its archaeology preserves the Viking Age unusually well: turf longhouses, pagan graves, early church sites and the assembly booths of the Althing, recorded here from the national heritage register.

The most common kinds of site here are settlements, trading places and iron-production sites.
